First, I had to submit a written application and then take part in a selection interview. Then, after a few weeks, I received the long-awaited acceptance letter and was allowed to fly to L.A. during the fall break together with other students from comprehensive or secondary schools in North Rhine-Westphalia. We were each accommodated in pairs with a host family. The families looked after us on the two weekends. During the week, we had a fixed program that included visits to two high schools as well as language and cultural courses. We were also able to help a church organization distribute food to people in need. I particularly enjoyed the day trips, where we got to know the country better. San Diego and Hollywood were on our agenda, as was a visit to Universal Studios. On the two "Beach Days", we were allowed to explore the beach and the city on our own.

When I think back on those two weeks, I am still overwhelmed. My time in the USA was great. I am glad that I was able to experience this adventure. If you are between 15 and 17 years old, have a good command of English and are curious about new things, I can only recommend it: Apply for the scholarship!
