The pupils went to Merschstraße, Oststraße and Wilhelmstraße in small groups with great joy and a great deal of naturalness. The Stumbling Stones of the Jewish families were cleaned and scrubbed with sponges and brushes. The pupils not only cleaned the stones, but also kept alive the memory of the suffering caused by the deportation and murder of Jewish women, men and children. The Stumbling Stones by artist Gunter Demnig have thus become a part of "living history" for our pupils, as they have become a permanent fixture in their everyday school life. Stumbling stones make you stumble over the terrible events of our history and have become a symbol of suffering and appreciation.
