At a total of six locations, the students made the stones shine again and engaged with the stories of the people whose names are on the stones.
The Stolpersteine are memorials and points of remembrance that are intended to point out the fate of Eperan citizens who were firmly integrated into the community. Rudi Nacke explained that the Pegener family, for example, had lived in Epe for five generations and were respected and integrated citizens until the Nazis came to power. Finally, the students were allowed to take a look at the old synagogue, which is currently being restored. Here they learned, among other things, what the restoration plans look like.
In addition to commemorating the victims of the Holocaust, the students also set a sign against forgetting and that there is no place in our society for exclusion and violence against people, regardless of their origin and religion.
